Tadabbur Al-Quran (Reflection of the Quran)

Every friday (10.00 am to 11:30 am), from Sep. 7th

The Quran is the Word of Allah, full of mu’jizah (marvels) relating to this life and the hereafter. The Quran was not revealed only to be read and memorized, but the bigger and greater reason is for it to be reflected upon (tadabbur), understood, appreciated, and then applied in life. This course will help students in learning to truly ponder over the words of Allah which are filled with vast and deep meanings contained therein

What you will learn

  • 1. Love for the Quran
For you to really reflect over the Qur’ān you must first love the Qur’ān so that your heart is attached to it. Tadabbur comes from the heart and love also comes from the heart, so you want to connect these two in your heart. If you have the love for the Qur’ān in your heart then Allāh will open the keys to tadabbur for you.
  • 2. The hidden treasures contained within the Quran
To take knowledge from it, whether knowledge about the world, your life, the hereafter, knowledge about the Prophet Muḥammad (SAW), knowledge about previous nations, and so on.
  • 3. How to converse with Allah when reciting the Quran
The Quran brings solace to a person who is feeling lonely or low if his heart is open, so that when he recites it that loneliness and sadness will leave him as he is conversing with Allah.
  • 4. How to heal using the Quran
The whole Quran is a healing for mankind. In fact one of its names is ‘Al-Shifa (The Healer). It heals the soul, heart and physical body. The student will discover how to use parts of the Quran for this purpose.
  • 5. How to maximise your rewards and benefit when reading the Quran
Reading it just to gain rewards, knowing that each letter it gives you 10 rewards. It is for this reason that it is advised to complete different types of ‘khatmas’ (cycle of finishing the Qurann); one for making tadabbur, reflecting on each verse and trying to extract benefits from them; and one to gain the rewards of reciting it.
  • 6. Obtain a deep level of reflection when praying
When you are in prayer, you are standing before and conversing with Allah using His Book! Ibn al-Qayyim states that when you start your prayer it is as if Allah removes the veil between you and He and once you get distracted the veil is put back again. (Al-Wabil al-Sayyib, p50).
  • 7. How to interact with the Quran in certain places
You can take a verse or a part of a verse and keep repeating it, as the more you repeat something the more it sticks in your head and the more it allows you to extract benefits from the verse. The Prophet (SAW) was known to interact with the Quran and ask Allah for Jannah when he came upon verses talking about it and seeking refuge with Allah from Jahannam when he came upon its verses.
  • 8. Making a connection to your life when reading what Allah is saying
Throughout your day, whenever you come across a scenario you will be able to think of what Allah said about this scenario and the approach the Quran wants you to take. By constantly applying the Quran to your daily interactions you become more accustomed to it and to what it generally calls for, therefore you can make better Tadabbur when you are reciting the Quran.
